Ladies and Gentlemen, I hope this computer works because we have much to discuss today.
I was going to bring another topic to you all, but we need another social media recap for the week of 10-14 to 10-20 because a lot has occurred in only a few days!
And I need y’all opinions. So, to not waste any more time, let’s discuss the one person who has been hitting our timelines back to back.
You may know her for acting abilities in Set it Off, Girls Trip, Bad Moms, Ali, and Jason’s Lyric.
But Will Smith knows her best as his wife. Yes, y’all, I am talking about Jada Pinkett Smith.
I don’t care if you don’t have any forms of social media. I know you have heard about her book press tour and all the information she has been dropping on Beyonce’s internet.
I thought we might have been removed from the group chat after the Entanglement scandal and Will Smith at the Oscars, but it seems we have been re-added to the conversation.
Some of the stories she has shared this week include but are not limited to Chris Rock asking her out on a date, Tupac proposing to her, that she is working on her life partnership with her husband, whom she has been separated from for a few years from, and that the late rapper Tupac Shakur had alopecia.
I have yet to read her book, but I know this is only the tip of the iceberg. And, if I ever get a copy of the book, I might understand more why she is being so transparent and open.
But, her statements have caused an outrage of comments to hit social media, and most of them are around how her book tour has impacted her life partner, Will Smith.
Many have commented that they wish she would stop embarrassing him. Others have shared that she has every right to tell her truth.
But at what cost? We often have this conversation on our page about the limits of sharing information on social media or the world.
And, while I know she has been promoting her book that thousands will read if not millions of people, I want to see how you all feel.
Should we know all of this information? Or, in the words of Amanda Seales, “Enough is Enough" (Seales, 2023).

Another hot topic this week was none other than Carlee Russell.
If you remember, this young lady falsely stated that she was kidnapped by someone in Alabama on a highway, which led to a massive search by individuals nationwide.
Even celebrities took time to share information on their platforms, and organizations who help find missing people did everything they could to “find” this young lady.
But unfortunately, a few months back, we discovered it was a hoax and that she was never kidnapped.
Carlee recently admitted in open court to faking her own kidnapping and subsequently was sentenced to a year in jail and fined 18,000 in restitution (Nottingham, 2023).
But, she was such a hot topic this week because someone was willing to pay her restitution in exchange for a conversation with her about where she was for the 48 hours she was “missing.”
None other than political commentator Candace Owens offered on Wednesday to pay the fine, stating, “I mean that! Take it to the bank, Carlee Russell! 18k in your bank account- just talk to me, on this show, about where the heck you were for 48 hours. America deserves to know” (Solomon, 2023)
As a result, I pose the question to you, “Does America deserve to know where Ms. Russell was for those 48 hours, or is she due some form of privacy?”
One last hot topic circulating the internet is an amusing conversation between Jay Z and a fan.
I am unsure if you have heard the question, “$500k or a conversation with your favorite celebrity?”
This question has been such a hot topic that it has included individuals like Beyonce, Rihanna, Diddy, Kanye West, and many others.
But, a fan finally got to tell a celebrity what they would choose and informed Jay-Z that they would take the $500k instead of conversing with him.
Ladies and Gentlemen, individuals on social media could only laugh at the video because they wondered if Jay-Z cared about the statement.
He was randomly approached while walking with his security, so I wonder if he even heard the man say anything.
But I have to ask you all the same question. Would you choose $500k or a conversation with Jay Z?”
On a serious note, there has been a lot going on between the Israelis and Palestinians in the past few weeks.
If you’re not aware, there was an attack from militants in Gaza on the morning of October 7, 2023, that killed an estimated 1,400 people and took more than 200 people hostage (Lawati et al., 2023).
While we know there has been conflict between the two parties that has been defined by violence and a lack of peace, the attack last Saturday has left a region of individuals without clean water, food, and medical care.
As a result, the White House announced on Wednesday that they will provide $100 million in humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people.
With tensions high, the world is watching a crisis in front of our eyes.
If you’re not caught up on what is happening in our world, please take this as a reminder to watch the news for a few minutes or add a news channel to your social media following.
As much as it is vital to re-share or tweet about what happens on our timeline about celebrities, it is also essential to be aware and share what is happening in the world we call home.
